So I got some attention with the icon that is now my default icon, the Ronja/Birke one.

So maybe I should tell you a bit about what the hell my Ronja/Birke icon is about.

One of my all time favourite books is Ronja Rövardotter by Astrid Lindgren (e. Ronia the Robber's Daughter, icel. Ronja Ræningjadóttir). The book takes place in some unidentified time in some unidentified time. I can imagine that Lindgren intended it to take place in a place that doesn't exists and never had like some of her other books like The Brothers Lionheart. But historically speaking, it might have taken place in 16-17th century Scandinavia.

Ronja is the only daughter of Mattis, the chief of a band of robbers that live in abandoned castle. The night when Ronja is born, a lighting hits the castles and it cracks right in the middle.

One day, when her parents consider Ronja old enough, they allow her to go out and explore the forest surrounding the castle. She practices not getting in danger but of course she keeps getting in trouble. One day she decides to practice to keep save from the very large crack in the castle. Then she meets a boy, Birke, and she finds out he's the son of Borka, Mattis' arch-fiend.

But Ronja and Rirke become friends after saving each other's lives couple of times. And they keep getting into adventures together. But their fathers don't seems to get along and finally Ronja and Birke get enough and move out into the forest.

The reason why I call them my first R/Hr is that they keep quarrelling like Ron and Hermione, they are both very headstrong like Ron and Hermione and finally in the books, Ronja has dark, curly, wild hair while Birke is tall, lanky, freckled and redheaded. The picture is from the movie that was made by the book where Ronja's hair is a bit too straight for my tastes (still it is very wild) and Birke has curly hair. But you see why they remind me of Ron and Hermione. Furthermore, one is quite certain that when Ronja and Birke will grow older, they will become a couple (or that's my opinion at least :D).

About the movie. (I haven't seen it in ages but I remember liking it a lot. I could see it again since we have it at the library (and I think my niece has it on tape) but that version is dubbed in Icelandic and I hate it when movies are dubbed in Icelandic).

And here's an Amazon link to the English translation. (Hint: read it ... you won't be sorry).
