I'm a huge mythology geek so in many ways this episode was like that buffet Dean said was better than heaven. I could pick at it to death though but I won't because this is probably one of the "party apocalypse" episodes we were promised (not seen too much of those, Kripke). Besides, I don't think this was written for the mythology geeks per se. Got a huge kick out of the idea that Gabriel invaded Ásgarður and disguised himself as Loki. What the hell, Gabriel? Way to wreck havoc in other belief systems. I can't believe Baldur merely growled 'Loki!' at you. The guy playing Baldur was indeed pretty enough to be Baldur but he's definitely a blond in my mind (just as Þór is a redhead - that blond Thor from the comics is just an abomination). Also Óðinn is kind of right, Ragnarök are a lot cooler than the Judeo-Christian apocalypse. I once had the pleasure of comparing the two in an essay.

This show was mostly wacky fun despite the gods with taste for man flesh and all. Downside was of course Lucifer killing Gabriel. Oh, Lucy. You totally need to get that righteous chip off your shoulder. Chill out or something.

Liked Rekha Sharma a lot more as Kali than I liked her as Tory (on BSG). Maybe chiefly for the fact that she was Kali and Kali is one cool goddess. Plus I loved her spiel about the Westerners always thinking that the world revolved around them. Sing it, sister.

Laughed so much when the Ghostfacers commercial interrupted the episode. Need to see the Ghostfacers webisodes.

Of course Gabriel had to hide his message in a fricking porno. And really, Sam and Dean, what if it had been yer average porn film with no hidden messages about how to trap Lucifer? Were you just going to watch it on a laptop perched on the top of the Impala?

I can't help but find the way to trap Lucifer kind of lame. I do suppose anything to do with rings will always seem lame to all LotR fans. And somehow I don't think that's the way the apocalypse is going to end with Sam and Dean using the special magic rings to trap Lucifer. I have faith in you, show. Make it not lame.

So all in all, The Hammer Of The Gods was a fun episode. Could have been a lot cooler but there's never pleasing us mythology geeks. Am miffed about Gabriel though.
