I've been thinking a little as a result of the all wank after HBP and the interviews. Now there have been H/Hr-ers claiming that JKR oversaw an opportunity to write about this wonderful love story about two young people who completely understood and deserved each other. As most people who know me at all, I've never seen this so all I can do is shrug really. I also used to think that if they were looking for this perfect love and romance, why they wouldn't just sail on and find it somewhere else, written or created by someone who was more likely to share their sentiments that JKR.
Then it kind of dawned on me that this love affair that some H/Hr-ers hoped their favourite pairing to have, really doesn't exists, not in the literature I've read, the films I've seen or the television show I've watched. In every pairing I could think of, I was able to find some flaw that marred the idea of them being the perfect soul mates. I could name examples but that would only end up being redundant.
I know that while I'm a romantic, I'm not the fluffy kind of romantic. The most romantic film I've ever seen is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind which should give you a pretty good idea of my sentiments.
But seriously, I've read my fair share of romances, the stuff that Avon and Harlequin publish and even though that's all sugar-coated make-believe, I don't recall that any of the pairings ever came close to what I feel those H/Hr-ers describe as perfect love.
Really without the intention of adding to the ever growing river of debate, frustration and wank, I must say that I do feel a little bit sorry for those H/Hr-ers who know feel cheated but the nasty part of me is still sniggering over the fact that they were looking for this great thing in books written by a woman who takes delight in writing toilet humour and arse jokes (and which I absolutely love her for doing).
