What I did today ...
Jan. 10th, 2005 01:25 amIt's so funny being back. To think that there is another place almost as familiar as my home in Iceland. And since the library was closed today, I ended up doing nothing.
Well, I did read this wank. It was a bit mind boggling reading excepts of Guns'n'Roses slash knowing that it had actually been written about *NSYNC.
I also read some Lotrips I've been recc'ed, I like recs.

You are Captain Malcolm Reynolds, aka. Mal or
Captain Tightpants. You saw most of your men
die in a war you lost and now you seek solitude
with a small crew that you are fiercely devoted
to. You have no problems being naked.
Which Firefly character are you?
brought to you by Quizilla
I thought I would get Zoe. Oh well. I like the results. And must finish watching Firefly as in buying the DVDs.
Thanks to iTunes's Shared Music, I discovered a French band called Cali whose CD, L'amour parfait, I covet.
Then I read trashy magazines and shook my head over the shoe tastes of celebrities, first Uggs and now Mukluks. I can understand using these kind of boots in cold weather but not with mini-skirts and tight jeans.
And now it's time for a meme (from
bruno_greengras):
1. Pick one dozen movies that are ones that you have special feelings about.
2. Pick a few lines of dialogue that mean something to you.
3. As people guess the film, strike out that entry.
4. If possible, after the film is guessed, explain why that movie made the list.
1."I'd like to quit thinking of the present, like right now, as some minor, insignificant preamble to somethin' else."
Dazed and Confused, guessed by
trazan.
Why: One of the more casual, charming, understanded etc. films about being a teenager. Full of excellent performances and wonderful music.
2."It's not a pretty face, I grant you, but underneath its flabby exterior is an enormous lack of character."
An American in Paris, guessed by
trazan.
Why: I don't think of myself as a huge fan of old films but this one totally won my heart. Maybe it's the music, the acting or the most beautifully done sets I've seen.
3. "At least you'll never be a vegetable - even artichokes have hearts."
Amélie, guessed by
bubblingoddity.
Why: Just a wonderful film that captures one's imagination and more importantly, one's heart. I was a different person after watching it.
4."We're not coming all the way out here just to get one of those stupid ties with Santa Clauses on it are we?"
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, guessed by
trazan.
Why: This is my Christmas film, everyone has their Christmas films and this is mine. It's my Christmas film because it so well describes the insanity that some people experience when the holidays grow closer.
5."You know, minimum security prison is no picnic. I had a client in there once. He said the trick is kick someone's ass the first day, or become somebody's bitch. Then everything will be alright. "
Office Space, guessed by
bubblingoddity.
Why: First of all, one of the better comedies I've ever seen. Secondly, it also tells you that you shouldn't get stuck in a job that brings you no joy at all.
6."What are you deeing man? This is hand to hand combat not a bloody tea dance!"
Billy Elliot, guessed by
voxmaille.
Why: 'Cause it's about that simple thing that you do whatever you set your mind to. One of the most genuine trimuph of the human spirit films I've ever seen.
7."The country my mother left behind was a country she believed in; a country we kept alive till her last breath; a country that never existed in that form; a country that, in my memory, I will always associate with my mother."
Goodbye Lenin, guessed by
soupytwist and
piperx and
drfidelius gets an honourable mentioning for hearing the German voiceover in his head.
Why: I just saw it recently and it struck me in so many ways. Maybe it was because I was actually reading so much about Socialism or something. It's also a very humane film and it says so much in an understated way. I can't recommend this film enough.
8. "You're an acid head!" "That was unnecessary!"
Sódóma Reykjavík or Remote Control, guessed by
lokrur.
Why: Classic Icelandic comedy and it also describes both Reykjavík and Iceland quite accurately.
9."Valentine's Day is a holiday invented by greeting card companies to make people feel like crap."
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, guessed by
redwood7.
Why: It's the most romantic film I've ever seen but it gives romantic conventions a long nose and I really dig that.
10."I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible."
When Harry Met Sally, guessed by
ifihadameadow.
Why: One of few romantic comedies that manages to be unsappy and it's actually full of clever insights on relationships and such.
11."That's it, I'm out of ideas. We're closed. Hot air balloon? Too expensive. Giant slingshot? Too conspicuous. Enormous wooden horse? Too Greek."
Monsters Inc., guessed by
redwood7
Why: Not the first Pixar film I saw but it's the one that made me realise the genius of Pixar and how the films actually appeal to everyone and both the adult and the kid inside them.
12."But I want you to know that I'm not a complete brain case, okay? I understand completely that it's just a TV show. I know there's no beryllium sphere..." "Hold it." "no digital conveyor, no ship... " "Stop for a second, stop. It's all real." "Oh my God, I knew it. I knew it! I knew it!"
Galaxy Quest, guessed by
voxmaille.
Why: That film just rocks. It does explain geekery so well and it's so meta that it hurts.
There are few movies there with its dialogue translated and some should be easier than other.
