Whoo, my first femslash in years! Not that I've written a lot of femslash but this was a lot of fun to write. It was kind of a pleasant surprise to get a femslash prompt from this fandom which is full of hunky guys who like to take their clothes off.

And a big shout out to Shoshanna Gold for writing me A Touchable Dream.

I've been so incredibly lazy these last few days that I haven't even done a happy holiday post, let alone a post to squee about my Yuletide gift.

Well, I probably have to recommend the canon first.

I've been getting into reading M/M romance novels and I've been enjoying quite a few of them. I like stuff with feelings and romance so I keep out of the aggressively kinky stuff but most of the novels I've read, I have enjoyed.

The one that stuck with me the most, I ended up requesting for Yuletide because I simply just wanted more of the main characters who were so lovely.

It's kinky as it's about a D/s relationship but it does a nice twist on what one has gotten used to with that kink and other BDSM related stuff. There's an age disparity but the Dom is younger and inexperienced. And really, from the outside, this pair doesn't look well matched at all. but that's what makes this such an interesting story. I totally fell in love with the main characters.

So I highly recommend For Real by Alexis Hall.

Then go read the fic I got for Yuletide this year.

Dear mysterious Yuletide writer,

It‘s Yuletide time again and I feel fine. I hope you're feeling fine as well, dear Yuletide writer. This is the place where I tell you that I'm easy to please and what I want most, is for you, dear mystery writer, to write what you want in the way you want to write. I do have prompts and things like that and I'll tell you a little bit about my likes and dislikes a little further down in the letter. Therefore I hope you're inspired by my prompts and that you'll have great writing experience.

Fandom: Figure Skating RPF
Characters: Johnny Weir, Stéphane Lambiel, Evan Lysacek and Brian Joubert.
Prompt: What I want basically, is something that could be called How Johnny Got His Groove Back. I want a happy Johnny doing fun Johnny things and Stéphane, Evan and Brian being along for the ride or maybe instigating the process of Johnny getting his groove back.

More details )

Fandom: For Real - Alexis Hall
Characters: Laurence Dalziel and Toby Finch
Prompt: A glimpse or two in the future of those two.

More details )

Fandom: Five Dances (2013)
Characters: Chip Daniel, Cynthia, Katie and Theo
Prompt: This movie is so understated and lovely. I just want more about all these characters, more backstory and things like that. Would love to Chip and Theo go and visit Chip's mom like they talk about in the movie.

More details )

Generally, I'm a reader of most genres but romance is probably my favorite, especially the racier sort. I like all kinds of kinky stuff but what I like most of all is realistic sex and plenty of emotion and feelings. Humor is awesome and I love dialogue and communication. I do love my angst and misunderstanding and character-driven plot tension. I love AUs, even some of the most common ones.

While I do read dark fic, I'm quite picky about it and I like to be in control of such reading experiences. So I advise you not to go very dark. As for the dislikes, well, I only have one hard squick and that’s bloodplay. Also, while I do love kinks, I like to have some control over when I read most of the hard kinks. But still I'd rather like that you, the writer, write what’s right for the story, if you know what I mean.

My hope for the person who writes for me, is for them to have a lovely Yuletide experience and write something they love to write. I'm curious to see what I'll receive and I‘m confident that I'll love it to pieces. Should the writer want to ask anyone who know something about what I like and what I might not like, then [personal profile] sarka possesses that knowledge. Also, here's my tumblr in case that will be of help for you.

I wish you the best of Yuletides.

Yours etc.

Interestingly enough, I've more job-related stuff to write about. I've also applied for umpteenth time for a job at the National Archives. It was always a total long-shot since it's a management position. The director of the National Archives seems to be stepping up his game with sending out information to the applicants. So yesterday I got an email with the number of applicants and their names. And therefore I know right away that I totally shouldn't get my hope up because among the applicants is the person who currently has this position (so I'm guessing this is like a re-organization thing) and a lady whose been working there for years and has a PhD in archival sciences (and she taught a course on archives back when I studied history).

50 questions - a meme )

I can tell you that, despite my deadlines, today was dedicated to the Glee Finale. I cried, I laughted. I wrote about it here. I also participated in a thing on tumblr and wrote about Glee and the fandom here.

And for the people who liked Glee when it began but stopped watching, you should check out the first half of the finale (at least).

First post of 2015! Happy New Year! I hope the new year will good for you all.

And since it's the new year, it's of course time for yuletide reveals.

What I wrote:

Shots (3850 words) for nahco3
Fandom: German National Football Team RPF
Rating: Teen and Up Audience
Warnings: None
Characters: Bastian Schweinsteiger, Lukas Podolski, Miroslav Klose
Relationship: Lukas Podolski/Bastian Schweinsteiger
Summary: Bastian Schweinsteiger’s rules of succeeding at your first World Cup. Number One: Play the best goddamn football you possibly can. Number Two: Try not to focus on how much you want to kiss Lukas.

Yeah, those in the know might realize that [profile] lokrur and [personal profile] thesunifollow had a little bit to with the fact that I ended up writing football RPF for Yuletide. They were super nice and helped me with the story and everything. I had loads of fun writing this fic though I developed a disliking for Jürgen Klinsman while writing it.

And a big shout-out to Tish for writing my amazing giftfic, 50 Shades of Gus (Drop the Dead Donkey, mature).

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate! And Happy Holidays to those who celebrate other holidays around this time! And Happy Thursday to those who don't celebrate any holiday this time of year!

I've got to tell you all about the fic I got for Yuletide 'cause it's the best.

50 Shades of Gus (2289 words) by Mystery Writer (this is like the best title ever)
Fandom: Drop the Dead Donkey
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No warnings
Summary: Sometimes dreams can come true. Sometimes nightmares can also come true. Set after S5E12: Sex 'n Death

If you've ever seen Drop the Dead Donkey and enjoyed it, you are going to love this fic because it's very much in the spirit of the show. The characterization is just wonderful and it's hilarious to the max. The title kind of says it all. I seriously am in awe of the mystery writer who managed to write such a great fic from my crazy prompt.

Glossary:

Single Skating: a discipline of figure skating where men and women compete individually. Referred to as Men's Singles and Ladies' Singles. Some of the other disciplines are pairs skating and ice dancing.

Levels in US skating: Pre-Preliminary, Preliminary, Pre-Juvenile, Juvenile, Intermediate, Novice, Junior, Senior.

Short program: first of two phases in figure skating competition for single skating, pair skating and synchronized skating. Is no longer than two minutes and 50 seconds and has required elements.

Free skate/long program: The second of the two phase in figure skating competitions. About four and half minute long for male skaters. Skaters have certain freedom to chose the elements they want to do but there are restrictions they have take heed to, like the number of jumps.

Step sequence: An element in figure skating. A sequence of steps or moves-in-the-field across the ice in a certain pattern.

Figure Skating Jumps: Toe loop jump, Flip jump, Lutz jump, Salchow jump, Loop jump, Axel jump

Quad: a quadruple jump - four revolutions in the air. Currently the elements most male skaters seek to have in the arsenal. (Also an element seen in pair skating).

Transitions: steps and movements connecting the performed elements. The more complex transition usually help boost the score.

Russian Split: A split jump.

Backflip: A reverse somersault in the air, banned from competition but popular in shows.

Spins: Element of figure skating where the skater rotates on a single point of the blade. There are many spin variations.

Moves-in-the-field: element where the skaters show off their basic skills and edge control.

ISU Judging System/Code Of Points: The scoring system used in figure skating. The score is composed of two factors: the technical score or the element score as like it's often called on protocols and the program component score (PCS) which is the more subjective part of the score where skaters earn points for things like skating skills and performance.

Grand Prix Series: A series of international figure skating competitions organized by ISU. They are: Skate America, Skate Canada, Cup of China, Trophée Eric Bombard, Rostelecom Cup and NHK Trophy. Then there's the Final but the top six competitors of each discipline from the Grand Prix series get to compete in the Final.

Finlandia Trophy and Nepelhorn Trophy: ISU sanctioned competitions.

Worlds: World Figure Skating Championships.

Nationals: A country's national championships in figure skating. United States Figure Skating Championships.

Icenetwork: Website, owned by The U.S. Figure Skating Association.

Kiss-and-Cry: the area where the skater waits to get their results after competing.

Notes:

As keen readers might have guessed, I'm a huge fan of figure skating and am kind of obsessive about watching skating competitions. I've been known to wake up in the middle of the night to watch skating. So when there was artwork depicting figure skating in the [profile] kbl_reversebang I was quick to try and claim it. So I've finally written the Figure Skating AU I've been wanting to write.

I had some more inspiration. I kind of wanted to address the latent homophobia in figure skating and I hope I've done so in respectful manner. There are a couple of recent articles about it. Newsweek's The Frozen Closet and Buzzfeed's Why Is The World's Gayest Sport Stuck In The Closet? (That title is awful though).

I also jumped at the chance to utilize the new rule about music with vocals being allowed in single (and pairs) skating.

As for the inspiration for Kurt's and Blaine's skating.

I modeled Blaine's skating on Javier Fernandéz, a little bit because they look alike but also due to Javier's showmanship. There's also some Stéphane Lambiel and a dash of Daisuke Takahashi (the quad flip of course) in the mix as well. Blaine's 'All Of Me' program should be similar to Stéphane's and Daisuke's more emotional routines. (Like Stéphane's Ne Me Quitte Pas).

My close friends have asked me whether I would be writing Kurt as Johnny Weir. Probably because I really love me some Johnny Weir. But truth be told, I kind of tried my best not to Johnny-fy Kurt. Canon!Kurt shared Johnny's love of Lady Gaga and fashion but I tried not to take it further. I visualize Kurt's skating to be more like Jeremy Abbott with the added agility of skaters like Evgeni Plushenko and Yuzuru Hanyu. So Jeremy Abbott at his best with the ability to bend like Yuzuru Hanyu.

I will deny it that Jean-Baptiste is modeled on Patrick Chan. I mean, I gave him David Pelletier's last name.

If there are any questions and remarks, you can comment here below. I'll try to answer.

Merry Christmas, everyone (who celebrates)! Happy Wednesday to the rest of you!

I got my Yuletide fic!!! I was kind of dismayed this morning when I opened up my email and saw no gift notification but then I looked at my AO3 page and saw my gift fic and it was perfect. Just perfect.

As for general fic likes, I'm easy to please really. I confess to be a bit of romantic as well as avid enjoyer of the racier sort of fanfic but I have an appreciation for most genres and writing styles. I'd rather want a writer being comfortable than bending backwards just to please me. Really, mostly I love a good piece of fanfiction. I suppose my defunct rec list might help you a bit and my likes on tumblr (why yes, I'm obsessed with figure skating and Glee).

I'm not easy to squick though I'd prefer it if all bloodplay is kept far away from me. I steer pretty much clear of gore and scat though those aren't true hard squicks like bloodplay is. I'm not keen on non-con (can read it under certain circumstances) and would prefer not to be tested with that in my gift fic. I don't really like kidfic (love it when kids are PoV characters but prefer not to read about the perils of parenthood and other such matters). Other than that, I don't think you need to worry much. If you like to make 100% sure that I'll be OK with what you are writing, you can go and ask [personal profile] sarka or [profile] vanessawolfie.

I wish you, dear Yuletide writer, all the best in your endeavors. I hope you have loads of fun writing a fic for me as I have a feeling whatever you'll come up with, will totally make my holidays.

Let us rejoice in the fact I'm not going to talk about work in this entry. Except if I had figured it out faster that I needed hot yoga to get some of the work-related tension out of my body.

I met up with [personal profile] write_light yesterday. He has been traveling around Iceland with his husband. I showed them around Reykjavík a bit (and Seltjarnarnes :D) and we had dinner. It may sound corny and weird but I love showing my foreign friends around my town. I wish it happened more often (hint: come for a visit - I'll show you around). Also it's always lovely to meet up with great people.

On few of the houses and fences in my neighborhood, there are murals and elaborate graffiti. I actually need to go around take pictures to show you because a lot of it is rather brilliant. But the newest addition to this unconventional gallery of art is a mural on the end house in the row of houses my house is situated in. You can see a picture of the mural here. It was painted this week and the artist started with the eyes and I saw the work at that stage and I knew right away of whom the portrait was. The grandparents of one of my best friends used to live in this house (her cousin owns the house now) and the portrait is of my friend's grandfather, one of the kindest and most loving men I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. This is such a fitting tribute to him.

And then I wrote a rambly thing about celebrity relationships and RPF here on tumblr.
hildigunnur: (Default)
I think I'm having some kind of job-related existential crisis. I ended up not bothering filling out an application for that head teacher job at the pre-school near my house and I'm currently coming up with all kinds of excuses not apply for a history teacher position. You know, a similar position to the one I threw a great hissy fit last year when I didn't get it.

What's going on with me?

Am I getting old and afraid of change? Am I thinking "better the devil I know than the devil I don't"?

Maybe it's just getting closer to the "Hildi needs a vacation" time of the year. And I say this despite the three day long weekend I'm currently enjoying and it has been enjoyable, with a party and loads of lazing about.

I've like things to tell and stuff but first of all, I hope those who are celebrating, are enjoying their Christmas. Secondly, this is about [community profile] yuletide gift which was just the most perfect thing.

This is a birthday post! Attention: this is a birthday post. Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] sigrundora!! See what I made in your honor!

I think the first order of business to is wish you all a Happy New Year.

The start of the year has been pretty uneventful so far except I had half the day off at work today and that was pretty damn nice.

And now I can finally start to reveal some of the things I've been writing. Yes, apparently I still retain the ability to write even though I was starting to despair that I might have lost it.

So for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide this year I wrote the following:

Putting It in the Hands of the Co-Pilot (1314 words) for Mallory Klohn
Fandom: Queer as Folk (UK)
Rating: Not rated
Warnings: No warnings
Relationship: Stuart Alan Jones/Vince Tyler
Summary: "Where to next?" Stuart asks, looking over at Vince in the passenger seat

I got a rather open prompt so I decided to mull things over a bit and see what wanted to burst forth. I had few ideas and they had all one thing in common, Vince being insecure about their relationship. So what I ended up writing, was really a conversation between Stuart and Vince about exactly that. The basic idea concentrated.

I'm pretty happy with it and I'm surprised how easily it came to me when I started writing it. Normally it takes a while for me to get into writing my Yuletide fics.

And a big thank you to andbless_mybaby for writing me that gorgeous American Horror Story fic, the after hours.
