Fandom question

hildigunnurWhen did songfic become uncool in fandom (the Harry Potter fandom specifically)? Back in the day when I was a fresh-faced newbie, songfics were not looked down upon or at least, it didn't look like that to me. Then one day I started seeing derisive comments about songfics and how terrible they were though rarely people gave specific reasons.
I do remember once reading about how to write a songfic successfully and how you should not just repeat the sentiments the lyrics were expressing but simply use them to support what you were trying to convey in the fic. Which to me seems reasonable and I have enjoyed fics that I've felt that did that.
It also appears to me that fics that quote lyrics at the beginning (of a chapter if it's a chapter fic), are usually not considered songsfic though the purpose of placing lyrics at the beginning appears to be the same as described here above.
What do you think? Have songfics always been uncool and I was simply out of the loop or did this change and when did it change? (If so, I have the feeling I need to blame Evanescence).
