Interestingly enough, I've more job-related stuff to write about. I've also applied for umpteenth time for a job at the National Archives. It was always a total long-shot since it's a management position. The director of the National Archives seems to be stepping up his game with sending out information to the applicants. So yesterday I got an email with the number of applicants and their names. And therefore I know right away that I totally shouldn't get my hope up because among the applicants is the person who currently has this position (so I'm guessing this is like a re-organization thing) and a lady whose been working there for years and has a PhD in archival sciences (and she taught a course on archives back when I studied history).

50 questions - a meme )

I can tell you that, despite my deadlines, today was dedicated to the Glee Finale. I cried, I laughted. I wrote about it here. I also participated in a thing on tumblr and wrote about Glee and the fandom here.

And for the people who liked Glee when it began but stopped watching, you should check out the first half of the finale (at least).

Stop. Meme time.

1. Leave a comment to this post!
2. I will give you a letter.
3. Post the names of five fictional characters whose names begin with that letter, and your thoughts on each. The characters can be from books, movies, or TV shows.

I could pretend like there's purpose to this entry other than to post a meme but I'm not going to.

So have this faboulous (and bandwidth breaking) meme that I pilfered from [livejournal.com profile] sarahblack.

1. Open your .gif folder.
2. Use every third .gif as a reaction to the statement.

I should really deliver some reviews here. One for SPN 6.09 and one for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. But all I'm going to say is that SPN 6.09 was hilarious and the movie was awesome and I need to see it again soon (I might write more about it at a later point).

I snagged a meme from [livejournal.com profile] sasha_davidovna, a 30 days figure skating meme!

Day 1: How you got into figure skating

Well, I'm not quite certain. I remember watching figure skating at the Winter Olympics 1994 but I think I may have been watching skating earlier. At least I remember Katarina Witt competing and winning and the Carmen production with the two Brians and her. But I think the seed for my obsession was sown when I watched the 1998 Winter Olympics and saw Anissina's and Peizerat's free dance. But figure skating used to be a thing I only watched every four years until this year. And now I have an obsession.

1. (Answer is The Queen and I by Sue Townsend)
* The Queen was in bed watching television with Harris.
* He counted them under his breath.
* She and Margaret and Crawfie had once travelled from Piccadilly Circus to Tottenham Court Road, changing at Leicester Square.
* He leapt up toward the parcel which was tucked under the Queen's arm.
* All that could be seen were Harris's sharp teeth and his red, liver-coloured tongue.

2. (Answer is Star Trek XI novelization by Alan Dean Foster)
* The star was a supergiant and very old.
* "Yes, I could see that."

* For the life of them, as it sped outsystem and entered warp space, no one on the Enterprise could figure out where the beagle with the very peculiar ears had come from

3. (Answer is The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger)
* If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you'll probably want to know is where I was born, and what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all before they had me, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don't feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth.
* "...All right?"
* "...But we had to read outside books for extra credit once in a while."
* She had hardly any behind.
* If you do, you start missing everybody.

4. (Answer is Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan)
* 9.00 p.m. on a November Saturday.

* Before, it was all about hope and anticipation.
* "Why?" I ask.
* And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.

OK, here are my answers to the shipping meme from yesterday.

[livejournal.com profile] sigrundora asked for a lot of fandoms. She be crazy so my answers kind of reflect that.

The wonderful [livejournal.com profile] queenriley asked for the following fandom:

Let's have yet another icon meme, people. Just in time to celebrate the fact I've filled my 199 icon slots.

01. Comment to this entry saying 'ICONS!' and I will pick 6 of your icons.
02. Make an entry in your own journal and talk about the icons I picked!

My lovely but crazy flatmate [livejournal.com profile] sigrundora demanded I'd explain the following icons:

Comment on this post saying you want a letter - I'll give you one, then post to your journal your five favourite songs that begin with that letter - along with downloads if you like. Or music videos... whatever works!

Since I'm a greedy bitch, I stole this meme from my friendsfriendslist:

* Choose an episode of television series or a movie you have on your computer. Make sure you're certain you want that one, you cannot change your mind once you skip this step. DO NOT TELL YOUR FLIST WHAT YOU CHOSE.
* Make note of how long the episode is.
* Ask your flist to choose a time between 00:00 and whatever the length of your episode is. Be specific, (ie: 19:11, 21:09, 02:42)
* Make them an icon using THAT FRAME ONLY no matter what it is. And remember, you can only use that ONE episode you chose previous, even if the person posting isn't familiar with it.

The length of the episode in question is 42:59

Meme pilfered from [livejournal.com profile] thistlerose:

1) Post ten of any pictures currently on your hard drive that you think are self-expressive.

2) NO CAPTIONS!!! It must be like we're speaking with images and we have to interpret your visual language just like we have to interpret your words.

3) They must ALREADY be on your hard drive - no googling or flickr! They have to have been saved to your folders sometime in the past. They must be something you've saved there because it resonated with you for some reason.

4) You do NOT have to answer any questions about any of your pictures if you don't want to. You can make them as mysterious as you like. Or you can explain them away as much as you like.

Yeah, there's a bit of the pretty people there )

I offered you the chance to ask me about fandom opinion yesterday. Some of you jumped on the offer. The offer still stands if you like.

But here are the answers to the questions I've been asked so far.

[livejournal.com profile] xkelorosiamano asked me about my opinion of Wincest.

My thoughts on Wincest )

[livejournal.com profile] alphabet26 asked a lot of questions. The first one is one of my sample questions - the one about misogyny in SPN.

I don't hate on women )

[livejournal.com profile] alphabet26 asked another SPN related question and I have an inkling [livejournal.com profile] sarahblack is interested in the answer as well. That is, what's my thoughts on Jo?

Miss Harvelle if you are nasty )

Then there come the Harry Potter opinions.

[livejournal.com profile] alphabet26 and [livejournal.com profile] chickadilly both wanted my thoughts on the epilogue.

At the end of all things )

[livejournal.com profile] alphabet26 then asked me about my favourite canon and fanon ships in Harry Potter.

Well, my favourite ship in HP canon is Ron/Hermione. Been shipping that since “whatever house I’m in, I hope she’s not in it.”

My favourite fanon ship is Harry/Ron. It’s the only ship I can claim to still read when it comes to Harry Potter fanfiction.

Finally [livejournal.com profile] prettyannamoon got curious about what kind of Twilight fanfiction I'd write (if I had no choice or something).

No damn Edward/Bella, that's for sure! )
hildigunnur: (jared - relevant to my interest)
I had the idea last night to do something similar. Ask people to ask me about my opinion on fannish things. And then [livejournal.com profile] chickadilly posted this meme and I pilfered it.

Ask me any question about any object of my fannish obsession - be it my opinion on the canon to my thoughts on the fandom itself - and I will answer.

So ask me away. You can ask me if I've perceived and am bothered by the misogyny in Supernatural or whether I like the epilogue in Deathly Hallows or not. Or with which Drop the Dead Donkey character I spend the night? Or what ship is the awesomest ship on Green Wing? Or if I had to, what kind of Twilight fanfiction I'd write? And yeah, those are just suggestions. Anonymous commenting is on. Ask away people.

Gacked most recently from [livejournal.com profile] verav.

a. Name your 10 15 absolutely favourite fandom ships (try to pick different fandoms)
b. Ask people to see what trends and similarities they notice about your ships.

In some fandoms I can come up with several ships, in some of the fandoms mentioned, I thought "Well, if I ship anything in this fandom, I ship this."

1. Ron/Hermione (Harry Potter)
2. Merlin/Arthur (Merlin)
3. Stuart/Vince (Queer as Folk UK)
4. Seth/Summer (The O.C.)
5. Wash/Zoe (Firefly)
6. Jared/Jensen (RPS)
7. Legolas/Gimli (LotR book)
8. Aragorn/Legolas (LotR movies)
9. Sam/Dean (Supernatural)
10. Dominic/Villimey (Ísfólkið)
11. Will/Elizabeth (Pirates of the Caribbean)
12. Danny/Kenickie (Grease)
13. Kirk/Spock (Star Trek)
14. Hardison/Parker/Eliot (Leverage)
15. Darcy/Elizabeth (Pride and Prejudice)

It's not like I need the writing inspiration (my BigBang keeps on growing but the end is not in sight) but since [livejournal.com profile] alphabet26 did a rather great job with this meme, I had to try.

10 Music Drabbles
1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it's over. No lingering afterward!
4. Do ten of these, then post them.

I picked Dean Winchester because I owe him (and because [livejournal.com profile] alphabet26 did such a great job with Sam). I wrote a fic about Dean that got Kripke'd big time before I could even contemplate posting it. I don't think I capture Dean all that well but at least I gave it an honest try.

Also if anyone wants the songs, let me know so I can upload them.

PS. [livejournal.com profile] lokrur, be aware, there are potential spoilers in the drabbles.

10 drabbles based on songs in three different languages )

I'm slightly irritated. But let's not talk about that. Let's have a meme instead.

Very Good Taste's Christmas Fifty

1) Copy this list into your blog or journal, including these instructions.
2) Bold all the items you’ve tasted.
3) Place an asterisk after all the items you’ve cooked/prepared.
4) Optional: Cross out anything you never want to try, or add an exclamation mark after anything your really want to try.

You’re also welcome to post a link to your version of the list here at www.verygoodtaste.co.uk.

The list and a bit of addition of my part at the end )
